FAMU Change FAQs

Getting Started

  • The FAMU Change app allows Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University alumni, students, and supporters to round up their everyday purchases and donate the spare change to FAMU. It’s an easy way to give back and support the university’s mission. This app is powered by HBCU Change.

  • Download the FAMU Change app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, create an account, and securely link your debit or credit card to start rounding up your purchases.

  • Yes. FAMU Change uses bank-level encryption and security protocols to protect your financial data. We do not store your banking information, and transactions are securely processed through our payment partners. We use Plaid and Stripe, two well known financial systems, as our payments partners.

  • Each time you make a purchase with a linked card, FAMU Change rounds up the total to the nearest dollar. Once your accumulated round-ups reach $5, the donation is automatically sent to FAMU.

Referral Program & Incentives

  •  You can track your referrals within the FAMU Change app under the "Referral Program" section.

  • While you can refer as many people as you want, the matching donations from our donor partner are capped at $15,000 for the program.

Donations & Financial Information

  • All donations go directly to Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University to support scholarships, campus improvements, student programs, and other university initiatives.

  • No, not at this time, but you can disconnect accounts at any time.

  • Yes. The FAMU Change app allows users to make one-time donations at any time. You can make these donations to maintain or improve your position on the leaderboard!

  • Yes. FAMU Foundation, which receives all donations made through FAMU Change App, is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes directly from the FAMU Foundation.

  • Yes, you may enroll a credit card to track the “spare change” associated with your transactions on that card. However, you must use a debit account (checking or savings) to pull your contributions to be sent to FAMU.

  • Donations will show up on your bank statements identified as "HBCU Change." This is because HBCU Change powers the FAMU Change app.

Managing My Account

  • Currently, all donations support FAMU’s general fund. However, we are exploring ways to allow users to direct their contributions to specific programs in the future.

  • You can update your payment method in the app under "Settings" > "Payment Methods."

  • Yes. You can pause round-up donations at any time in the app’s settings.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Ensure your bank is supported by our partner, Plaid,, and that your login credentials are correct. If issues persist, contact our support team via the app or email support@hbcuchange.com.

  • Click "Forgot Password" on the login screen and follow the prompts to reset your password.

  • Yes! Anyone can support FAMU through the app, whether you’re an alumnus, student, family member, or just a fan of the university.
